For many years, Lions Clubs International has supported the Special Olympics. At the 2007 Internation Convention in Chicago, Past International President Jimmy Ross recognized Timothy Shriver, Chairman of the Board of Special Olympics and presented a $200,000 donation to Special Olympics. In August, the District 14-B Cabinet voted to support the Allegheny County Special Olympics.
VDG John Frombach has volunteered to coordinate the 2008 activities in conjunction with the Allegheny County Special Olympics organization. The 2008 Summer Games will be held at Baldwin High School on Saturday, May 10th from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm. Approximately 400 to 500 Special Olympics athletes will participate.
If you are not available to volunteer on Saturday, help is needed on Friday, May 9th to set up for the games.
This is an exciting opportunity for Lions, Lionesses, and Leos to provide hands-on support for this outstanding event. We are not asking for any financial commitment, however that is always welcome. We are asking for your time to come to help support this vital program within our community.

There are many opportunities to volunteer any amount of time that you are available. You might only be available for one hour or you may want to volunteer as an escort for the entire day. The choice is yours. With more than 1,000 Lions, Lionesses, and Leos in District 14-B, this is a time that we can step up and eipitomize that "WE SERVE."
Just think of seeing all of those gold vests on volunteers for this event. This can also be an occasion to ask that potential member to join you in volunteering. Think of the possibilities of adding new members to your club.
Shown in the chart is a list of volunteer positions that are available for our members. You can see that it takes many people for the Special Olympics to be successful. You can join with other organizations, and schools (including volunteers from Baldwin-Whitehall School District) to provide adequate volunteers for this event.
Club presidents and secretaries will be receiving correspondence in the near future to provide more information on the steps to participate.
If you have any questions, you can contact VDG John Frombach at 412-882-3926 or 412-956-3940 or by EMAIL |
